The Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) established the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs (CBMA) by Executive Order (EO) No. 2019-09 on July 6, 2019. EO 2019-09 established the CBMA and appointed a Special Assistant to the Governor for Military Affairs. The CMBA’s mission is to “improve communication, coordination and response of the Commonwealth government to the U.S. Department of Defense and various departments and commands, facilitate the military’s integration into the community, and to ensure the relationship between the military and the CNMI government and its people is one based in mutual respect and benefit.” The CBMA acts as a single point of contact and clearinghouse of communication, documents, and information between the DoD and its various departments and commands and the government of the CNMI and its various departments, agencies, and public corporations. The CBMA acts as a liaison between the DoD and the CNMI.
